National Workplace Wellbeing Day will be taking place on Friday, 8th April 2016.

The nationwide campaign, which is organised by the Nutrition & Health Foundation and supported by Ibec, aims to help improve employee health through promoting better nutrition and exercise in workplaces.

Last year hundreds of public and private sector organisations supported the inaugural event.  They organised a range of special events for staff on the day including healthy breakfasts, health checks and talks, exercise and fitness classes, cookery demonstrations and lunchtime walks.

This year, World Champion Boxer, Bernard Dunne and All Star Dublin footballer, Sinead Goldrick are asking employers to organise a “Lunchtime Mile” for staff - a one mile run, jog, cycle or walk on the day. Aer Lingus, Nestle Ireland, Naas Community College and Waterford Institute of Technology are among the many companies that have signed up for the initiative.

"It’s in everyone interests to be healthier," says Bernard Dunne. "People spend so much of their day at work that it’s the perfect place to promote better eating and exercise habits. Small steps can lead to big differences that can help today’s workers as well as their children and even grandchildren."
