A Guide: Keeping Your Employees Motivated

You need your staff members to be working hard for you from the moment they clock in until the moment they clock out. If they aren’t motivated in this manner, your company’s tasks won’t get done, deadlines will be missed, your customers won’t be happy, and you’ll struggle to turn over the profit you need to continue trading.

The task of keeping your employees motivated really is that serious. Here’s how to set about it:

Ensure that they take breaks

Ensuring that your employees take breaks might not seem like something you have to worry about — all of your staff members will take it upon themselves to take half an hour away from their desks at some point in the working day, right? Wrong. Sometimes, a member of your workforce might be too engrossed in their work to stop, and some employees may even be too scared to take a break in fear of angering you. No matter what the case may be, you cannot afford to accept it. You must take it upon yourself to ensure that the entirety of your workforce take breaks.

This is one of the most underestimated yet essential tasks that you face as a business owner, as breaks are proven to restore motivation in those that take them. An employee of yours could be working flat-out for hours on end, take a 30-minute break, and then return to their duties with a fresh sense of enthusiasm. It’s just the way the human brain works, and you’d be foolish not to take full advantage of it.

To ensure optimal motivation upon their re-arrival back at their desks, you need to make sure that your staff members are completely detaching themselves from their work (and everything else that is causing them stress life, in fact) during their time of respite. No matter what it is your workers enjoy doing, make sure that they do it, whether it’s playing virtual slot games on Unibet, diving into a good book, or jamming out to their favorite tunes (with headphones in, of course). As long as it means that they are not thinking about the tasks that they face when they eventually return to work, they will feel refreshed.

Recognize and reward good work

News flash: your employees don’t just want their monthly pay-packet as recognition and reward for the hard work they put in during their working hours. They want you to go out of your way to acknowledge their efforts, and they want extra perks as recompense for their endeavors. Providing your workforce with this kind of service will make them feel appreciated. In turn, that will motivate them to continue working hard for you.

As stated by SnackNation, the perks that are guaranteed to motivate your employees include:

• Health Insurance

• Paid time off/sick days

• 401(k) retirement plan

• Flexible working schedule

• Developmental programs

• Employee discounts

• Wellness programs

Stock equity (check out NCEO for advice on how to choose an employee stock plan)

Everything your business does starts with the effort your employees put in, so you need to make an effort to ensure that each individual is giving their all to the cause. Take the above advice, and keep your employees motivated at all costs.
