Mercer’s 20th annual Quality of Living survey has been released today. The survey is one of the world’s most comprehensive and is conducted annually to enable multinational companies and other organisations to compensate employees fairly when placing them on international assignments.
Dublin ranked in 34th position and is the highest ranked city across the UK and Ireland. London (41) is the highest ranked UK city ahead of Edinburgh (46), Birmingham (50), Glasgow (50), Aberdeen (58) and Belfast (68).
Vienna tops the ranking for the 9th year running and is followed by Zurich (2), Auckland and Munich in joint 3rd place. In 5th place Vancouver completes the top five and is the highest ranking city in North America. Singapore (25) and Montevideo (77) are the highest ranking cities in Asia and Latin America respectively.
Commenting on the results, Consultant at Mercer Ireland, Noel O’Connor said, "Dublin ranks higher than London and compares favourably to a host of other European Capital Cities. Some of the key factors placing Dublin in 34th place in the survey include a stable poitical environment, lower levels of air pollution and a strong socio-cultural environment. The results demonstrate that Dublin remains an attractive location for international businesses to send their employees."
