Finance Committee to meet today to discuss motor insurance costs

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will meet this morning  to discuss the rising costs of motor insurance to Irish motorists.

Meeting in the Committee Room 2 at 11am today the two sessions meeting will initially see presentations from the Irish Road Haulage Association, the Irish Taxi Drivers’ Federation, the Car Rental Council and the Freight Transport Association Ireland. 

The 2nd session will then see presentations from representatives of the Law Society of Ireland and The Council of the Bar of Ireland.

Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD, said “Following on from last week’s hearings we will now have the chance to meet with those that use our roads commercially. The rising cost of motor insurance impacts directly on their ability to earn a living and so we welcome this opportunity to hear the views and opinions of the Road Haulage Association, Taxi Drivers’ Federation, Car Rental Council and Freight Transport Association.”

The meeting will be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV; Saorview Channel 22; Virgin Media Channel 207; Sky Channel 574; eir Vision Channel 504 and Vodafone Channel 201.
