KBC Bank Ireland’s charity partnership with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) has got off to a good start with staff raising €40,000 during a 600km relay race across Ireland and the Bank matching the donation, bringing it to over €80,000.
Members of the public and staff came out in strength to support the 60 strong relay team as they arrived at, and departed from, each KBC Hub during Hub2Hub. The unique volunteering challenge was a demanding 600km run, with KBC colleagues running day and night to complete the course in 10km relays in 60 hours to raise funds for the ASI.
There are currently 55,000 people who are living with dementia in Ireland. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is providing supports and services to people with dementia and their carers, including 52 Day Care Centres and one Respite Care Centre.
The €80,000 generated through the relay run will make a real and lasting difference to the lives of people in communities living with dementia around Ireland and will help to support vital lifelines across a range of services including day care, home care, family carer training, social clubs and Alzheimer cafes.
Speaking this week, Director of Customer, Brand & Marketing at KBC Bank Ireland, Aidan Power said, "The work The Alzheimer Society of Ireland does in our communities is very important and clearly one that many people in KBC feel passionate about, with the amount raised being a testament to that. We look forward to working with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland into the future."
