Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O'Leary is "hopeful and optimistic" that industrial relations issues will not damage the business further this year, but he said it would not be helpful to put a timeline on resolving the issue completely.

"I am hopeful and optimistic that we are making real progress with the unions and that we won't have any further damage to the business this year," O'Leary told Reuters in an interview ahead of a news briefing in Brussels.

Ryanair cut its forecast for full-year profit by 12% last week and warned that worse may follow if recent strikes across Europe continue to hit traffic and bookings. (Reuters)
