The latest figures from the CSO, show that in the period January-March, the total number of trips to Ireland increased by 14.1% to 1,531,300 - an overall rise of 188,800 compared to the same period twelve months earlier.
It is estimated that trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 6.9% to 191,200 while trips by residents of Great Britain rose by 14.2% to 725,800.
Furthermore, trips by residents of European Countries other than Great Britain (Other Europe) increased by 17.6% to 526,000 while trips to Ireland from Other Areas rose by 9.4% to 88,300.
According to Merrion Stockbrokers, "The Irish tourism sector should in 2015 be boosted by the weak euro, particularly against the dollar and sterling, which will attract more visitors from the US and UK into the country. An annual increase of 12.5% in trips to Ireland is envisaged for the February-April period."
