It was announced today that the Women’s Gaelic Players Association (WGPA) will become a corporate partner of PwC.

This will be an extension of an original partnership that commenced in 2012. The new partnership will enable the WGPA to support the ongoing development of its members, both in their playing and professional careers.

The WGPA have rolled out a range of support services including a member helpline, scholarships and personal development coaching and with PwC’s association, this will be expanded through leadership training and third level education events. The ongoing work will also serve to celebrate female players as role models, not just in sport but also business and education, which resonates strongly with PwC’s ethos of excellence and leadership.

Chairperson of the WGPA, Aoife Lane said, "We are delighted to have the support of PwC as we work to establish ourselves as a voice for our members. High performance sport helps to set up good habits for life, which places top ladies footballers and camogie players as ideal role models in Irish society. Unfortunately, these players are relatively invisible and undocumented, something that is recognised by nine out of ten of our members.  Our new ‘Behind the Player’ campaign aims to show players as athletes and individuals to help the sporting public to connect with them, and also places the WGPA as supporters of players as they work to be their best on and off the field."

PwC’s incoming Managing Partner, Feargal O’Rourke added, "Supporting talent development is very much part of our business.  Talent, leadership, commitment and supporting people to be the very best they can be is what PwC is all about. These facets are also reflected in sport at the highest levels.

We are therefore delighted  to partner with the Women’s Gaelic Players Association and in supporting people who excel in their career and in sport."
