The Taoiseach will travel to London this morning to meet formally with the new British Prime Minister Theresa May at No 10 Downing Street.
High on the agenda is likely to be a wide range of issues of mutual interest, particularly the UK’s Brexit referendum.
Likely to feature prominently in these discussions is the fact that neither leader wants the return of a hard border in the North.
Other likely topics of discussion include the ongoing supportive trade and travel arrangements between the two countries.
The Taoiseach, speaking in advance of the meeting, said: “I look forward to meeting with Prime Minister May. This meeting will provide an opportunity for us to have a strategic and constructive discussion on the impact of the referendum and how we are going to work together to protect the interests of all our citizens on these islands.”
