Comtrade has today announced that its Digital Services division has received ISO certification as a developer of medical software solutions.

Comtrade believe the certification will help their Irish business achieve 25% year-on-year growth between 2016 and 2020.

Comtrade Digital Services is part of Comtrade Group, operating in Ireland, the UK, Europe and North America. It can now play an increased and major part in the continued growth of Ireland’s MedTech sector by developing medical software solutions with the ISO 13485 stamp of approval – an international industry standard.

The certification will allow Comtrade Digital Services to disrupt the medical market with software that will accelerate innovation and facilitate the digital transformation of the industry.

Comtrade’s Irish team of engineers is currently developing software that will benefit advanced wearables and in vitro diagnostics – two of the fastest-growing subsectors in Ireland’s medical device industry – as well as laparoscopic surgery and pacemaker technology.

Ireland’s MedTech industry is growing at an exponential rate. Figures from the IDA show that the country’s medical devices and diagnostic products export market is worth €12.6 billion annually – representing 8% of Ireland's total merchandise exports.

Comtrade Digital Services will seek to support 240 of the 300-plus companies currently developing medical devices in Ireland with its software solutions.

Business Director (Ireland & UK) at Comtrade Digital Services, Dejan Ćušić said, "Ireland’s healthcare industry is ready for disruption. Ireland is a leading global exporter of medical devices, but innovation and time to market are key to holding that position and advancing further. The ISO 13485 confirms that Comtrade Digital Services’ software for medical devices is best in class and we look forward to seeing our footprint engrained in the success of the industry."
