Google Ireland announced last week that it will partner with a not-for-profit Approved Housing Body to offer the 46 apartments it acquired as part of the Bolands Mills development as fixed-term reduced rent opportunities to key workers in the local community.

The Tech Giant is working with a selected shortlist of Approved Housing Bodies to develop and implement the plan. Google’s aim is to create an environment that is reflective of the diverse nature of the Grand Canal area.

Google say that this project will target eligible individuals and their families who work in jobs that are critical for the well-being of the community such as public safety employees, nurses, teachers and front line service workers.

In addition to the residential rental units, the new Bolands Mills will feature 40,000 sq ft of publicly accessible mixed use space, an eclectic and functional mix of retail, recreation and dining options and experiences, including a dedicated 5,000 square foot community and cultural space.

Google will publicly launch its call for retail occupiers in mid 2021 with the Bolands Mills scheme set to open to the public at the end of 2022.

Commenting on the initiative, Global Vice President of Real Estate & Workplace Services at Google, Jennifer Kelly said, "Our hope is that through the development of Bolands Mills, we support the Grand Canal district to flourish as an active, creative and innovative area with community at its core. We are working with our neighbours to ensure that Bolands Mills meets their needs and that it provides retail, business and leisure facilities that benefit the people that live here, and those that travel to work here every day."
