It was announced on Friday night that Kerry Spring Water has gone into liquidation. SIPTU representatives will meet with workers at the company in Ballyferriter, County Kerry, early this week.

SIPTU Sector Organiser, John Dunne said, "The company employs 14 staff who are members of SIPTU. The liquidator met the workers last night and has also been in contact with SIPTU representatives. The liquidator has stated that he intends to develop a business plan to secure the company and sell it as a going concern.

"SIPTU representatives will meet with the workers and the liquidator early next week. The top priority is to attempt to safeguard jobs and ensure that the workers are treated fairly throughout this process.

"This is a very difficult time for our members in Kerry Spring Water and their families. In light of the communication from the liquidator there is a degree of hope for the future of the company. However, there is also deep concern over the future of jobs at the company in an area in which employment opportunities are scarce."
