Ireland has been named the friendliest country in Europe by the readers of popular travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller. And, in the readers’ list of friendliest cities in Europe, Dublin came in in sixth place.
Condé Nast Traveller asked its readers to decide on their favourite countries, cities, hotels and resorts around the globe, in its annual Readers Choice Awards survey. The magazine has unveiled the results of its 2022 survey – taken by hundreds of thousands of its readers – including its list of Europe’s friendliest countries, where readers felt most welcome. Beating off stiff competition from other popular destinations – like Portugal, Greece, Iceland and Turkey – Ireland was voted number one.
The friendliest countries in Europe, according to the 2022 Condé Nast Traveler survey, are:
Ireland
Portugal
Greece
Iceland
Finland
Turkey
Denmark
Netherlands
Italy
Spain
Commenting on the findings, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland, Niall Gibbons said, "I am delighted that Ireland has been named the friendliest country in Europe, and Dublin the sixth friendliest city, in this year’s prestigious Condé Nast Traveller readers’ survey. Again and again, our research shows us that the friendliness of our people is one of our unique selling points. It is the warm welcome and the ‘craic’ here that resonates with our overseas visitors and makes the island of Ireland such a great choice for a short break or holiday. This accolade by the readers of Condé Nast Traveller magazine gives Tourism Ireland another great platform to continue to promote Ireland around the world as a ‘must see’ destination."
