Forty three percent of Irish companies are planning to hire new staff in the fourth quarter of this year, according to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey.

In the last quarter of 2023, the National Hiring Outlook showed an increase of over 33%, a seven percentage-point jump from the previous quarter.

The report also shows there has been a year-on-year growth of 5%.

Skills Shortage

These positive hiring trends, however, are contrasted against the ongoing challenge faced by 81% of Irish businesses in finding talented individuals.

With a record low unemployment rate of 4.1%, employers are finding it particularly difficult to source skilled candidates for their open positions.

Hiring Confidence

The survey shows that employers in the Communications sector are in the lead when it comes to hiring confidence, with a Net Employment Outlook of over 42%.

This is followed by employers in the Financials and Real Estate & Healthcare & Life Science sectors at over 33%.

The Information Technology has also bounced back from previous quarters with an outlook of over 26%, up 20 percentage points on the third quarter.

Flexible Mindset

Employers in Ireland report that they are equally likely to hire temporary and permanent staff when considering headcount expansion over the next 12 months.

Manpower said this reflects the need to maintain a broad talent pool and to develop a flexible mindset from a workflow preference.
