The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Mr. Michael Ring yesterday announced an investment package of Dormant Accounts Funding for Sport and community coaching through the Sports Partnership in Limerick.
This will include the establishment of a Community Sport and Physical Activity Hub in Croom and the creation of three Limerick Community Coaching Programmes.
Minister Ring commented, "The Job Seekers Community Coaching programme in Limerick City and Newcastle West will give 36 unemployed people an opportunity to become trained sports coaches.
"The initiative recognises that many unemployed people have an interest in sport and may offer the potential to provide employment opportunities.
"Funding of €2,089,620 is being allocated to establish Community Sport and Physical Activity hubs across the country and create a National Sports Education and Training hub.
"The investment will be administered by the Irish Sports Council and will aim to engage with communities across the country, targeting people with disabilities, people who are educationally disadvantaged and disadvantaged communities."
