Crowds of Penneys fans turned out yesterday morning to celebrate the opening of its new store in Carlow Town. The new €12 million store employs over 100 people from the local area.
This follows the company’s announcement last November to invest over €250 million in its Irish business over the next 10 years, creating more than 700 jobs in Ireland over the next three years. Primark will increase its total selling space in Ireland by an estimated 20% within the next 10 years. The international retailer currently operates in over 400 locations across 14 markets in Europe and North America.
Head of Penneys Ireland and Northern Ireland, Damien O’Neill and the new Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, Councillor Brian O'Donoghue were yesterday joined by Martina Farrell, wife of the late John Farrell, who was the former store manager and worked at Penneys Carlow for over 20 years, John sadly passed away from MND in 2021. Martina cut the ribbon to officially open the new store located on Kennedy Avenue, Carlow Town.
