Why A.I. Will Never Replace IT Professionals

The term “Artificial Technology” was invented in 1955 by John McCarthy, a math professor at Dartmouth who organised the influential conference on the topic the following year. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength.

Everywhere you turn, there seems to be the talk of how evolving technology and the development of Artificial Intelligence will affect our day to day lives. As we are very aware, sensationalism sells; and just because a machine can replace a human’s job, it doesn’t mean that we would want it. In some cases, even if the machine can do an adequate job, a human is preferred.

Eolas Recruitment understands that while technology plays a huge part in the IT industry, a human being is the most valuable tool there is within a tech company. As one of the leading IT recruitment firms in Ireland, Eolas Recruitment have years of experience matching candidates to their perfect job role, so they know that A.I. will never replace IT professionals, and here are just a few reasons why:

Relationships

A good business is built on solid foundations, and those foundations come from relationships. While A.I. can interpret emotion and language which will continue to improve over the coming years, it is unlikely they will ever be able to replicate the human ability to build trust and connect with other people.

Having a solid working rapport within your company is something which cannot be achieved with machines alone, and can prove to be invaluable in many different ways. Dealing directly with a person instead of dealing with a machine should never be underestimated.

Data Isn’t Always Stored in Computers

Technology undoubtedly makes our lives easier and will continue to do so in the future. In fact, research from 2015/16 found that nearly half of Irish businesses said they had started to automate processes or were turning to automation in the coming years to help lighten the workload.

For example, there is software available that can learn your Customer Relationship Management data, calendar, email, Enterprise Resource Planning, and can deliver recommendations and predictions based on your goals. It can even suggest next steps if it detects a change in customer sentiment.

But more often than not, data needs to be processed from multiple sources by one of the most powerful computers out there; the human brain. There are times where more than the “black and white” has to be considered, and machines cannot do this.

Experiences

There is the argument that hiring a Programmer to automate a job is more cost-effective than having a person doing that role fulltime; but what about that person’s previous experience? Yes, the machine may be more cost-effective at one specific task, but what about everything else encompassed within a business?

The sharing of experiences can be invaluable in any business, but certainly in IT. Someone who has worked their way up the IT ladder will have had knowledge from many different areas that they can share with their team. The Specialist Recruiters at Eolas Recruitment carefully analyse the individual and their experiences to ensure they match the right person to the job. They look at more than just how the individual will perform their job, but also what they can bring to their new team; something which cannot be done with a machine.

By working together with A.I., businesses can certainly become more efficient, effective and progressive, but the notion that Artificial Intelligence will replace IT professionals is not one that should be believed.

Whether you are a business looking to hire IT professionals or you are an individual looking for a new challenge, the team at Eolas Recruitment can help. Their Specialist Recruiters are highly experienced and they take the time to understand your individual IT recruitment needs. Contact them today for more information.
