The nominees for The 2017 Sockies (The Social Media Awards) have been announced today. Record numbers of companies and organisations have entered these awards which have now been running for 7 years.

Five hundred people are expected at the event in May with 200 companies and organisations having entered. New categories this year include SnapChat, SME categories, Facebook of a State Body, Gaeilge and Live Video. SpunOut.ie have been announced as the headline sponsor for the event.

Every nomination in the Sockies gets judged by a team of judges on specific criteria, the best are then sent forward to be finalists. The awards ceremony takes place in the RDS Concert Hall on May 25th.

Commenting on the awards, Claire O'Dowd of SpunOut.ie said, "We're really excited to be a part of this year's Sockies and can't wait to celebrate those who are on top of their social media game. These days so much of our lives are online and interactions via social media are becoming more and more important to the relationships we form with people, brands & services. Using social media platforms to be really truly engaging isn't easy and those who do it well deserve to be recognised."
