The Small Firms Association (SFA) have claimed that small businesses employ half the private sector workforce, some 800,000 people.

The Association has today welcomed the Action Plan for Jobs 2017 released by the Government which they say has been a huge support to businesses maintaining and creating jobs over the past five years.

It is estimated that 64% of SFA member companies plan to take on additional staff in 2017 and, with the new measures outlined in the Action Plan for Jobs 2017, the SFA believes that small businesses will create over 20,000 new jobs.

Speaking today, SFA Director, Patricia Callan said, "Brexit poses a significant threat to small businesses, both exporters and those trading in the domestic market, and the Action Plan for Jobs 2017 places a much-needed focus on specific measures to support companies at this challenging time. The SFA welcomes the inclusion of an Export Finance Initiative and the expansion of the successful Trading Online Voucher Scheme, both of which we called for from Government."
